Destin--Part 1

Riley was scheduled to have a conference last week in Sandestin.  After the April tornadoes, they decided to postpone the conference until November.  Since we already had everything booked, we decided to go ahead and go.  We left Tuesday morning and came back Sunday.  The weather was amazing...sun everyday and a nice breeze!! Can't beat that!!

Anna Riley is always a pretty good traveler but I had a feeling that going down wasn't going to be so pleasant.  She had not been feeling well most of the weekend and we even had to skip church on Sunday because she was so cranky.  She has never had fever with teething and normally she might show some signs of teething but none has been this bad.  She was getting her last back molar and it about took all the patience I had but I knew she was in pain!  On Monday, she woke up screaming aroud 2 and I was up with her for a good while so neither of us had good sleep that night.  So, Tuesday on our way down she was not a happy camper (for the first half of the trip anyway)  then she finally gave in and took a nap.

The first day at the beach was about the same...she was just not herself.  But she did enjoy being out on the beach and each day got better and I could tell she was feeling much better!  She crawled in my lap and took a nap every morning while on the beach only after she had a banana!  haha...that was her routine every day!  She played in the sand and in the ocean. But, she would not take an afternoon nap!!  I mean I tried while on the beach, I tried in the room..would not!!  On the last day, I had given up on the afternoon nap and it was our best day...she actually took two naps, both on the beach and we stayed out there from 9 to 5 with just going in for lunch and she was in the best mood that night!

Once you have kids and they are in certain stages its almost just better to give up certain things such as eating out at a restaurant!  One night we ate at the Red Bar and she did pretty good until the end. Another night we just ate in Baytowne and there is enough there to keep her entertained so she was ok.  When we went to Harbor Docks...well that was a nightmare!  Let's just say we got to-go boxes before the food was there and took it back to eat!  I can usually entertain her and yes sometimes she wants down but we can make it through the meal.  This was horrible!  She was screaming!!  One of us would take her and walk by the water and she continued to scream so I didn't want to ruin everyones meal and let's face it we werent going to enjoy ours either so we left.  And guess what?? She was the happiest little girl when we got back and we did eat in peace!! :)

All in all we had a great time, we always enjoy the Destin area! Anna Riley loved the Baytowne Wharf...we went a couple of nights and strolled around, let her play on the playground and ride the carousel, which she loved!! Here are a few pictures from the first day. I will post some of the others later.

Happy Memorial Day

So thankful for all the men and women that fight or have fought for our country so that we can be free!
I hope everyone has a fun and safe Memorial Day!!

20 weeks---Half way!!

As of Thursday, I am at the halfway point!!

Symptoms:  My back is starting to hurt more...especially when I have to carry a 25 lb. toddler around.  My headaches are still occurring but not as frequently.
Weight gain: Aroud 9 or 10 lbs (as of today not Thursday)...eating out most meals at the beach put the lbs. on!!!
Maternity clothes: Most of my clothes all fit fine.  I did buy a materniy swim top because I'm sure it will be needed later in the summer.
Cravings: Fruit and sweets (especially cookies) and my Mom's potato salad.  Food commercials have been killing me lately...I haven't had Wendy's in probably over a year but that spicy chicken sandwich commercial has me craving one!
Sleep: Sleep is pretty good except if I wake up to use the restroom and its already 3 or 4...it usually takes me forever to fall back asleep.
Gender: Girl!!
Movement: I finally felt her on the outside but just barely.  She is moving around a lot more lately.

19 weeks

Symptoms:
My symptoms have been pretty much the same... no more sickness but still having headaches.  Which is funny because when I was pregnant with AR I was still sick at this point but the headaches weren't occuring as much.
Weight gain:
Between 5 and 6 lbs.  I feel a lot bigger this week and I feel like I am showing a lot more.
Cravings:
Oranges...which is odd because I never eat them because I hate peeling them but I am eating at least one a day if not more right now.  And as always, I love anything sweet.
Sleep:
Not so good this week.  I toss and turn a lot during the night because my back and arm start hurting if I am on one side too long.  I have also been waking up every morning between 4 and 5 and it takes me atleast an hour if not longer to go back asleep. I would love to not do that until I have too!!
Gender:
A girl!  Ava Kathryn Hollyhand
Movement:
I have felt her a lot more lately...mostly when laying down at night.  I felt her a lot last night!  I can't wait to be abl to feel her on the outside!

Miscellany Monday--Baby's name!

NAME

Riley and I finally decided for sure what Baby girl's name would be.  It was actually the name we both liked from the beginning and the first name we really talked about but we just wanted to talk about it a little more and make sure that was it.  Ava Kathryn Hollyhand...I have always loved the name Ava and Kathryn is after my Mom.  I also really wanted to use another A name mainly just for the simple fact of reusing a lot of Anna Riley's clothes because I usually just monogram an A rather than the whole monogram.  We are pretty sure that we will call her Ava Kathryn rather than just Ava but we will really just see once she is here.

BOOK

I finally got my blog of Anna Riley's first year printed in a book.  I have ordered it and it should be here June 7!  After trying several sites, I used Blog2Print.com mainly because it was the easiest and it didn't take forever to download (since it was 196 pages...and that was with taking a few out and consolidating so that more than one post was on a page!)  But, the only thing I am not crazy about is that it is very plain and the layout isn't the best just because I chose to consildate pages. I contimplated back and forth about making one from Shutterfly or just printing it so we would have it and I figured it would take me almost another year just to get it like I wanted so I decided it was much eaiser to just print it like it was.  Plus when I write these posts, it is in the moment so I feel like it is a good "caption" of her year.

WEDDING SEASON

It is officially wedding season!  Riley and I went to another wedding this weekend and we have another one next weekend!!

FAMILY

Saturday, we went to a family cookout at my Aunt Diane's house for a little reunion.  She has it once a year for all of her and Mom's brothers and sisters... all 10 of them! We don't see this side of the family much and usually it is just once a year at this cookout.  This year all 10 brothers and sisters were there.  Anna Riley got to spend the night with Granna and PawPaw and go to church with them the next morning!

Baby Bedding and Furniture

I love this part of pregnancy!  As soon as we found out we were having another girl, I immediately began online browsing and by that night I had found what I wanted.  Riley thought it was so funny that 12 hours had not even passed and I already had the room all picked out!   We will hopefully order it very soon but I thought I would show you what we have chosen (unless I find something I like better before then).

I wanted to do this baby's room pretty different from Anna Riley's.  I did soft pinks and whites for AR's but I wanted Baby2's room to be a little brighter.  I also decided to go with a white crib (white linen is the color).  It is from the same company that AR's is from and it also converts to a toddler bed and also a full bed.

I really like the aqua and hot pink.  I actually thought about doing a nursery in those colors (if I had another girl) when we were in Fairhope for the arts festival and I saw a painting of a peacock with those colors.  Now I just wish I had that painting!

18 weeks

Symptoms:
I have felt great this week...just a  few headaches but that is all!  I actually made it to the gym for my Zumba class two days in a row (which has not been happening lately) and I think it has made me feel so much better!

Weight Gain:
close to 5 lbs.

Maternity clothes:
Just jeans if I wear them...which is not often with the heat right now!  For the most part, unless I have to go somewhere, I am in gym clothes or pajamas! :)

Cravings:
Nothing really... well I have wanted chips and dip but that is one of my "bad" foods even when I am not pregnant!

Sleep:
Sleep is pretty good as long as I have a pillow between my legs.  I have the big pregnancy pillow but it just gets in the way.  I am sure I will bring it out as I get bigger though...I loved it with the last pregnancy.  I do have to switch sides quite a bit or my back starts hurting.

Gender:
Girl!!
I have started the nursery planning! I have picked out bedding and a crib that I am pretty sure I will go with...I will share soon!

Movement:
I have been feeling more of the flutters!  Riley is so anxious about being able to feel too!  That is probably one of my favorite things about being pregnant!

15 month check-up

Yesterday, we took Anna Riley back to see Dr. Kurdirka for another look at her eye and bloct tear duct.  We have not had anymore problems with the tear duct as far as the outside is concerned, so I was hoping we were able to bypass the little surgery.  Luckily, he agreed that everything still looked great so no surgery would be needed!  He suggested that we bring her back in a year so he could just check everything and make sure she didn't have a lazy eye or any other problems.

Today, we had AR's 15 month check-up.  She weighs 24.9 and is 32 1/2 inches long.  At her last check-up (12 months) she weighed 22.13 and was 30 3/4 inches.  Everything looked and sounded great and Dr. Roberts even said her heart is starting to sound much better which is a great sign that she will outgrow the abnormal rhythm.

I am so happy that Anna Riley LOVES her doctor!  Dr. Roberts is wonderful with the kids and when she comes in the room, Anna Riley is almost fascinated with her and all her "gadgets."  I thought it was so sweet that today when she came in, Anna Riley hopped out of my lap and went to sit with her.  For someone that she doesn't see but every few months (thankfully) , she really likes her a lot and you would think she is around her all the time!

Mother's Day

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day!  I had a great day!!  Anna Riley slept in a little later and I enjoyed breakfast in bed which is always a nice treat!  We headed off to church and then to the University Club for lunch with the family.  We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing and watching Anna Riley play outside.  I am so blessed to be a Mommy and to have such a great Mother and Grandmother that have taught me so much!
